Sri Lankan and Chinese authorities smash e-banking fraud ring Sri Lanka’s Criminal Investigation Bureau, together with its Chinese counterpart Public Security Bureau, recently busted an online banking fraud ring and deported 94 Taiwanese who were arrested for running the online scams. The Sri Lankan-based fraud ring allegedly hacked into the bank accounts of mainland individuals, retrieved victims’ personal information and impersonated Chinese police.
PayPal to help develop DWP UK’s online ID assurance service Department for Work and Pensions UK confirmed PayPal as the eighth and final service provider selected to help build and run a secure online identity registration service, dubbed the Identity Assurance Programme, for people accessing public services. The programme will initially be targeted at benefits claimants, as part of the government’s introduction of a ‘universal credit’ later this year.
